Not really feeling this remake

Just can't get into it story wise. I'm glad most like it, but I feel this is more for the current ADD generation.

What a wonderful in-depth post. You were able to perfectly express why you couldn't get into Rebuild of Evangelion in just under 2 sentences. No need to give examples of why you can't get into the story or feel for the characters. Not even putting forth the effort to express why it doesn't connect with you at all. Wonderful observations. Wonderful ADD observations.

There. It's on the Internet. Thus it's official

It's not flowing well for me. Lots of action , special effects, etc. but the characters feel like a "diet soda" version of their original selves. The new character , I could not care less for. She's basically a mix of Asuka and Misato. She's just extra fat on the steak.

I like the effort though, and I'm glad a lot of people like it. Hopefully the third and fourth movies can make somewhat of a deeper connection to the viewer.

between eva geeks and my cousin, I finally have an idea how this movie's plot goes and ends... it sounds fairly accurate to the personalities.

late reply but see the third film, its nothing like 2.22 with all the action scenes.

I will not fear, fear is the mind killer

Neither do I.
While it markets itself as a "new story", it is essentially the same story at the core, with the same character roles (as viewed through the eyes of our protagonist), leading to the same outcome as the original rendition.
Unfortunately, in a less convincing and more cheap way. The status of the previous movie which introduced a series of events that would spin everything out of control, is quickly forced into the same footsteps of the original.

Now what does this mean for the movie? It means it has to leap hurdles larger than it can jump within the allotted time, and many shortcuts are made. 14 years of time would provide the excuse for any change in characterization, and removing any semblance of intelligence in the characters makes anything possible.
Unfortunately this leads to the movie having quite shallow characters, as well as an undefined setting.

There also....various dubious plot devices that serve... equally dubious purposes. The choice to not age the characters despite the passing of time, can be seen as an effort to placate a group of the existing fans, who would seem to prefer the 14-year old appearances of the characters.

All in all, this is something I really cannot "feel" either - the only feeling left is disappointment.

I couldn't (literally) have said it better myself.
