(SPOILER) I love how Shinji

Found out about his mother, I thought that that one scene saved the whole movie for me. I don't remember if Shinji ever fully learned the truth of his mothers death, I just remember Ritsuko taking him to the Eva grave yard and saying this is were Eva was born and you're mother died. It was ambiguous but anyone could piece it together and it didn't really seemed to affect Shinji in the least.

However in this Prof Fyutski told Shinji and it seemed to do a real number on Shinji, it showcased that Fyutski is not for what Gendo wants at all, even in the original series you got glimpses of this but he never truly tried to help out of fear of Gendo and Seele. Now it seemed he just doesn't care at all since the world has been destroyed.
