They say in the series that the name Kira is what the west were calling him, i cant rmemeber but i think they say america specifically. Am I right in thinking that he was simply called killer and then mispronounced in Japan as Kira and then that mispronuncoation then comes back to us when the series was translated?

shareJapanese have a habit of pronouncing English "l" sounds as "r" sounds, so mispronouncing "killer" as "kirrer", and then converting it to "kira" as a namesake isn't that weird
shareYeah, I don't think there is anything in the Japanese language with the "L" sound which is why they pronounce it different like an "R". It's probably very similar to other languages too, where they don't have all the "letters" of the alphabet in their vocabulary so some sounds are foreign to them.
