Edward Snowden's intentions.. Light Yagami or L ?

I thought it would be interesting to discuss or compare the intentions of former contractor for the United States government, Edward Snowden, who copied and leaked classified information to several different sources, to either Light Yagami, or L.

I'm talking only in terms of ethics and basic moral beliefs. You would certaintly be right in saying he went to massive lengths to fight the state under surveillance and redeem our basic freedom and privacy, whilst acquiring classified information to counter and expose the corporate giant (I personally see his actions as extremely noble and honourable).

But, is it worth debating that it may be possible that some of his decisions in managing and/or distributing the information he has and leaks isn't altered in some way to fit any biases he and/or his colleagues/journalists may have? And what would that mean for the future of Snowden supporters?

P.S. Just to be clear, I am no expert on the subject! There probably is a clear answer to this in the 'Citizenfour' documentary but I haven't got around to watching it yet. For some odd reason his name came to mind after watching this anime and I just wanted to see what peoples views of him were and to look at this important issue from different perspectives..

Light

Is keen on being the ruler of a new world.. You could compare him to a Hitler type figure as his intentions are very much based on some false beliefs and his desire to be the frontman in making his vision a reality. He has a skewered view of society, that no one has the potential to change (all wrongdoers are evil and should be punished and therefore live a life of fear etc.).

Does Snowden see the current people in power as entirely corrupt or is there some hope for both sides to come to an agreement? If not, what lengths will his supporters go to to fight extreme right wing establishments? And what does that mean if the media only headlines extreme forms of passionate disagreement for the biased republican mindset? Will it result in negative actionsfrom protesters that can only be broadcast as mass 'hypocricy'?

L

is almost like an anonymous figure. I guess you could say he believes in the justice system that is in place but keeps himself at a distance from being recognised. In many ways he fights for a just cause, although he has that counter-establishment image which may result in agreesive behaviour from some less civilised, irrational people with an overly passionate, perhaps sort of anti-democratic way of solving issues. (For example, the scene where Misa is tied up and being investigated by L).

All I'm trying to figure out is, to what extent will people go to achieve their agenda/get their point across, whilst maintaining a crime free image or is every worldwide issue doomed to have radical actions? Will it be somewhat similar with Edward Snowden, Anonymous, freedom fighting supporters in that its inevitable that we are doomed to support radical behaviour against opposing positions of power aka. 'The lesser of two evils.'
