What's up with this version?


It's very low budget...why was this made so close to the big tom cruise blockbuster? Was it a TV movie?

Are you sure you have the right film? This is a docudrama about the life of HG Wells:

Undoubtedly it was released close to the Tom Cruise film to capitalize on interest in Wells's story.

That one is made by The Asylum. They are well-known for making low-budget films with either the same, or similar, titles to big blockbusters and then releasing them around the same time as the blockbusters. Other films they've made include Atlantic Rim (to capitalize on the release of Pacific Rim), Triassic World (to capitalize on the release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) and Tomb Invader (to capitalize on the release of the Tomb Raider reboot with Alicia Vikander).

I thought this might be the docudrama but the picture moviechat uses is the C. Thomas Howell movie.
