People LOVED this episode??

I felt like it didn't have any drama...it's just a battle scene with people hacking away at each other. Yes, I love the dragons, but not a lot happened.

Why are people flipping for this episode??

Yeah, but the battle was AWESOME!!! Damn, these people make some entertaining battles - each major battle is edge-of-the-seat gripping, but each one is utterly different from the others.

Damn, I haven't reacted so strongly to a TV scene like that since the battle of Hardhome. I was actually yelling out loud and I never do that.

Mmmmmm....I guess I like the emotional machinations and intrigue more. Here a dragon just showed up and leveled everybody.

I hope they didn't melt all the gold...or cover it with ash!

The gold is safe in King's Landing, for all the good it'll do Cersei with no food coming into the city.

And don't think I don't value emotional scenes, in fact I really appreciate how this show can move from gripping emotional scenes to touches of humor to Awesome battles - they do it all well! Like when it came to the Battle of the Bastards, the most suspenseful scene wasn't actually part of the battle, it was part of the aftermath... where Sansa and Ramsay were alone together for the last time. Chilling.

I thought Jaime was looking in the back of one of the wagons, and there were gold bars there? I thought they were transporting it back to Cersei...

reply

They sent gold bars to KL asap, b/c the Iron Bank is waiting.
Later on the episode they were still farming food for the army and sieges when the attack happens.

reply

Oh thank you, I kind of missed that transition, it appears : )

reply

gold can be used to buy food duh

reply

not if its winter and nothing can grow, and all the grain stores were burned.

reply

best episode of the show IMHO, especially because you care about people from both sides.

<< especially because you care about people from both sides. >>

I don't know...I kind of shocked myself by wanting Jaime to die when he was lunging at the dragon. I think I'm just becoming jaded, and resigned to the show ending. I'm like "Okay, people...we have to start winnowing this down. He can GO!"

reply

oh, that's why it didn't work for you. But what about Bronn? If he dies I'll be mad.

reply

Yes! he deserves his castle!! It would bug me if he were wiped out.

reply

ok man, what's happening here is that some characters are not working for you :). that explains everything.

The best battle, and best part of this freaking great episode, was not the flame-broiling of the Lannister army. Not even close.

It was the bonding sparring duel between Brienne and Arya, where Arya showed that she, little Arya, is the best fighter is Westeros; and then she turned around and looked right into Littlefinger's soul.

Or, at least, right into what passes for his soul.

reply

I think her soul has suffered some damage too. Understandably, but still. The way that she, in the latest episode, was encouraging Sansa to basically rule like Joffrey was disconcerting.

reply

She sees things either black or white now. People are either friend or enemy, making alliances in that gray area in between is what got her family members killed. So she believes she has learned how to prevent that from happening again.

She's at that difficult, tween age....

I think they liked it because it makes a Jon/Dany union look more likely (she seems to be growing to like him), and it also puts Jon, Jorah, and the Hound -- three of the show's best loved characters -- together for a dangerous mission. In short, it's the anticipation factor. People like the episode not so much for what it shows, but for what it's teasing us with.
