How are they killing the dead without Dragon Glass?

The dead bear gets stabbed and dies. They punch or slash a dead army soldier and it falls dead. How are they killing what is dead already without Dragon glass?

It's the White Walkers themselves that can only be killed by Obsidian (Dragon Glass), the peons, wights, skeletons, can be stopped by standard armaments.

John killed a white walker with his Valerian steel sword too.

Valerian steel is an exception. They explained that in earlier seasons.
