Donate Money to School

Just watched the episode in which they gave away 10,000 dollars to a school that has won several awards in excellence. Why, though? Would it not be better to give this money to a school which does not already have these awards? Knowing the American school system a little bit; there would be elementary schools far more deserving of this donation!

I admit I was thinking the same thing. School with good grades tend to get more funding or at least I think so. Now unless these are charter schools separate from
public they do need all the money they can get. I have a few friends who teach at charter schools. They often need donations for basic supplies.
