Another DC dumpster fire at 37%

Get your marshmallows.

Now at 36% on RT... Groan!!!

And yet...the box office will still be spectacular...just look at the same scenario that happened with Suicide Squad. People will come out for these characters REGARDLESS of RT scores

reply

Because comic fanboys will throw their money at any overpriced low quality garbage no matter how low the score is.

reply

It doesn't matter...money is money and the DCEU continues to make major bank even with bad critical reception.

reply

Queen seems to forget that it cost money to make movies...spectacular for one film is not for another. DC movies are costing huge amounts of money to make and market. BvS was below expectations and it made "spectacular" box office. The results of that "spectacular" box office had WB altering SS and praying WW would succeed. It also lead to JL handed over to another director and with questions about the rest of the slate of films. Wonder making SS money would be "spectacular". JL making that would be disaster because of the expectation and cost of film.

reply

If JL makes Woner Woman money it is still a financial success regardless "expectations". I"m sure the breakeven point is around $600 million. .

reply

But expectations when you are dealing with these films is everything because they are building a cinematic universe and its performance effects the other films. BvS has had a negative effect on the universe and so did SS. Wonder Woman helped, but clearly not enough because this film is running behind BvS and SS when in an ideal world it would be running ahead of BvS. And while I am not an accountant at WB I am thinking that 600 mil would be on the low side considering the most likely not included in stated productions cost costs of reshoots and Whedon.

I think WB will take small margin of profit for a disaster, making any money is always good, but making very little is not because it doesn't bode well for your other projects. JL not being the top grossing film of the group would be a failure for this project and thats what it looks like.

Why do you care so much about DC movies at the box office? It's all you post about. I'm curious.

reply

I checked this morning and it was 41%. I thought it would stabilize there but it's dropping even more.

Is it time to stop using Zack Snyder? Let someone else at bat. Maybe Matt Reeves will save this universe (although I was slightly disappointed by his War for the Planet of the Apes).

reply

This was not a zack synder movie by any stretch of the imagination. This is 100% whedon. The score, the forced comedy, the garbage colour palette. It feels like a high budget asylum movie rip off of avengers.

reply

Id argue the problem is neither Snyder or Whedon, it's the writer Terrio. They think he's great because he won an Oscar, but that doesn't mean someone like that can write a superhero movie (or any kind of popcorn action movie) for a general audience. And the Oscar was for an adaptation too, not an original screenplay.

The problem with these movies is not the visuals or the direction, those are its strengths, its that they have bad stories, and that's is the job of the screenwriter.

You can blame Ben Affleck too because he's the one that brought Terrio with him from his movie Argo.

Nothing on earth can save this universe. It was stillborn with Man of Rehash, and they've been trying to prop up the corpse with destruction porn and bad CGI.

Soo, the user ratings aren't worth anything? :o (I'm asking here, as I've got no RT experience here :p)

reply

You should read the reviews rather than go by the numbers. If the user reviews on RT are like IMDB they are inflated right now.
