I thought they did a good job of not convoluting the story with too many character plot lines. They kept it simple and to the point of what happened within the families. Manni was shown posting flyers once they learned where she was last seen. Also, other than her family, he was the only person they showed at her casket and he was clearly devastated. I think the fact he was given that scene alone speaks to how close he was to the family and how involved he was a well. Notice he was standing with the family at the cemetery and her mom touched his shoulder as they walked past him in the church also.
