While Rachel is at Caroline's apartment, Caroline makes drinks. In her glass she pours only soda and in Rachel's she pours soda, vodka and something else.
Having not been familiar with the case, I thought perhaps she planned to poison Rachel. It's a completely pointless detail that has absolutely no bearing on the film/story, but I remain curious as to that extra ingredient. Was it just another mixer?
A late reply to this question, I think it was some sort of sedative to make it easier for Caroline to do what she did to her Caroline had a lot of mental issues it was probably one of her medications.
shareA SUPER late reply! I had wondered the same thing about that other ingredient too and believe it to be the liquid form of tegretol...of which Caroline took for her epilepsy. It causes sleepiness as well so I would suppose Caroline gave it to Rachel to sedate her so she would struggle less. Google tegretol for more info.

Even later reply..lol I also wondered but just figured it was a sedative of some sort, even though it did not show her getting sleepy in the movie. My theory is that Rachel sort f set Caroline off when she suggested if she wanted to lose weight she should try dancing and the sedative didn't have time to work. I also wonder why Jenny said she seemed drunk on the train. That was a bit out of place for me because hey didn't seem to be drunk when they got to her place and Rachel initially refused Caroline's offer of a drink.

And that part about Jenny saying they were drunk threw me off too. I mean...clearly they weren't drunk, I'm pretty sure they weren't even drinking at all. I don't understand why Jenny would say such a thing.
