So insanely bad

This movies makes no sense at all.

The 'attempted murder' charge is completely ridiculous and she never, ever would've been charged with anything.

There is no explanation how they got the shell casing.

Why not just buy the idea of him for $50 000, instead of setting up some insane con (which if you consider the expenses in terms of time and effort for all involved would most likely have ran more than that).

There was no reason for the cop to kill himself.

The philosophy and ideals portrayed in the movie have nothing to do with either BJJ or MMA and are so insanely cliche, simplistic and naive it's horrifying.

The corrupt world portrayed would never fly in today's MMA and ended up bankrupting PRIDE.

Someone with a 0-0 record would and who is not a celebrity would never add prestige to an event. If he beat your champion your champion would look like a complete fool, even if he won the rematch. Being undefeated is much more marketable. At the very least a fighter would have to be an Olympic competitor in a fight sport (wrestling, judo, boxing ect.) or have won a national title in a fight sport to generate any buzz.

Why not just find some martial arts instructor who could be bribed instead of trying to fool one who couldn't if they wanted to add legitimacy to their event and also fix it.

The fight and training scenes are completely unrealistic and a BJJ blackbelt would never fight like either did in the final scene.

The fight fixing gimmick is stupid and no one would ever want to watch something so insane nor would any athletic commission allow such fights to occur.

Terrible, terrible movie. These are GLARING plot holes that anyone who knows anything about BJJ or MMA can see straight through.

You know, I enjoy picking movies apart myself, but I at least bother to actually analyze the story before claiming everything is a 'plot hole'.

"The 'attempted murder' charge is completely ridiculous"

Why? She grabbed a cop's gun and fired it at him. There's no way this would have worked out well for anyone involved (her for grabbing the gun and firing, the cop for leaving the gun unprotected in the open for her to grab).

"There is no explanation how they got the shell casing."

Yes, there is. In the scene where Mike finds out the fights are rigged they explain that his wife set him up.

"Why not just buy the idea off him for $50 000"

Because they're greedy pricks, and they wanted to pretend like it was their idea. They also wanted Mike to fight and saw it as a chance to leverage him.

"There was no reason for the cop to kill himself."

I don't know what you consider a good reason - losing your job over selling stolen merchandise, potentially losing your job and going to jail for obstructing justice and leaving a loaded firearm out seem like just as good a reason as being sad. Now, I don't like suicide stories in plot lines myself, but there's as much reason to buy this one as any other.

"The philosophy and ideals portrayed in the movie have nothing to do with either BJJ or MMA"

Interesting - martial arts has nothing to do with honor? Many would disagree with you.

"The corrupt world portrayed would never fly in today's MMA"

Hilarious.

"Someone with a 0-0 record would and who is not a celebrity would never add prestige to an event"

This is simply an alternative suggestion to the plot, not a plot hole.

This is simply an alternative suggestion to the plot, not a plot hole.

"The fight and training scenes are completely unrealistic"

... except that all the fight scenes were choreographed by actual martial arts instructors.

"The fight fixing gimmick is stupid"

This is simply your interpretation of the gimmick and not a plot hole. Is it stupid to have a guy come out dressed as a sergeant and beat up a guy dressed like a commie? Sure. Worked great for WWF.

"Terrible, terrible movie. These are GLARING plot holes"

Nonsense. The only glaring hole is the one in your head.

Fenrir-5 awesome job!

She accidentally grabbed it, she propably didn't even realize what it was till it discharged. She had NOTHING to worry about, I mean, how can you charge someone for attacking a police officer if said police officer denies it?

"Why not just buy the idea off him for $50 000"

Because they're greedy pricks, and they wanted to pretend like it was their idea.

The whole idea was unoriginal and based on a historic tradition. So it's fair game for every one. If you're afraid to get sued, use a different number of marbles or draw straws or something. Same diff.

The gimmick is stupid cause it would take all the suspense and excitement out of the fight. The promoters planned to fix the fights by chosing who gets the handicap. So even they were absolutely sure that the guy with the handicap would lose every single time. Why would you pay to see a fight if you already knew how it's going to end before the first punch is thrown? The only way this could be a reasonable addition to a fight would be to give handicaps to both fighters. That's what they did in ancient Rome. Gladiators pretty much all had their handicaps, usually they were matched to maximize the excitement. Like slow but heavily armored fighter against agile but completely defenseless fighter. You can't just give the handicap to one fighter and expect a halfway decent fight.

9inchnail...nailed it.

only way she would be charged with attempted murder is if everyone was in on it, and even then it's a bit of a stretch. That whole scene was painful.

as for the gimmick, exactly what 9IN said. Who wants to watch an obviously fixed fight? It was fixed-ception (fixed within a fix)...

"Thank you, Nikita Sergeyevich, in the name of the rehabilitated."

Sounds nitpicky. I know nothing about MMA and thought it was great.
