I'm really disappointed

Aside from Sean Penn's performance (and many of the other actors did very well, too) I found this movie very disappointing. I saw "The Times of Harvey Milk" in 1984 when it opened in my local theater, and I never saw it again. After more than 25 years, the images from that film were still burned in my mind, and I felt like I understood something about Harvey Milk.

So I finally saw "Milk" and while it was interesting because the story itself is inherently interesting, I don't think it added anything to the story. I had hoped that the feature film would explore Milk's life more fully in a more free way than could happen in a documentary. But aside from a few suggestions about his personal life, which were not fully developed, the film didn't add anything to what we learned in the documentary.

It's too bad, because as I said at the start, I think the actors did a good job--they just didn't have fresh material to work with.

I'm going to go re-watch the documentary now.
