The donations

Cute movie but the fair scene where the mayor presents Sam with a collection from the community really irritated me. I suppose they want to convey that Sam doesn't want to accept charity but to me I thought this was a great gesture and she could have at least used that money to pay off some of the smaller debts. But her refusing it looked more stupid than humble. She could have used that money to buy out the mortgage or pay off all the places she had 'tabs' for. Richard doesn't even ask her about it for Sam to explain why she declined it so it was just a pointless scene in the movie for me. And then for that plot point to never appear again. So the mayor just gives back the money and NO ONE in the town is like 'no, we'll do this in stead...' ie, paying off debts, buying said mortgage, i dunno.

I don't normally gripe about Hallmark movies because I understand they are fluff and we are supposed to just enjoy them as they are. but this scene actually made me angry because of the stupidity.
