Do Americans never learn?
I am yet to see this film, but judging by the trailer it is extremely stereotypical. When the dad says "You're going to boarding school in ENGLAND" (By the way, England isn't actually a country)- I guess the American viewer is supossed to think "England = crap weather, posh, reserved people who all speak like the Queen"? And the whole trailer in general seems to be full of the image that British people all talk like the Queen and are extremely reserved.
So, it seems to me, the whole premise of this film is, British people are reserved, posh and leave boring lives lead by up-tight social conventions, no technology in school - only black boards, strict codeof uniform, until the sophisticated American comes along and they all go "wild" and are set free? To be honest, you're more likely to find strict social conventions, and "posh" behaviour, and archaic equiptment in some American boarding schools. The upper-class in Britian died out in the 50s. I wish the UK would make some films which made use of the stereotypical American.
If you really want to know what England's like, This Is England, as has already been suggested, is actually a good dipiction of British youth culture and what has influenced it.
