They spent 80 million on this

And another almost 80 million on advertising. Not one person sat down and saw it was poorly written? With no character development?

Jesus christ. You dont come back from bombs like this with a recession around the corner.

they don't care. investors write it off, everyone gets highly paid, bankrupt the single use LLC, and they move on to the next one.

it's the INVESTORS that I really can't comprehend. unless, "hollywood finances" some how makes back more than was lost during the bankrupting part, due to "taxes" or something? I don't know how it all works, but time and time again, movies "Lose money", but cast and crew all made millions, and some how investors keep investing.

reply

Yeah, it's all a racket.

Investors get fucked, unfortunately there are lots of idiots with lots of money that are easily sucked into investing in a movie that has big names attached. They get sucked in by the Margo Robbie or Christian Bale name and never bother to look at what is critical like the script.

This movie had potential but needed to have some characters completely cut and the story cleaned up. Some of what was thrown in really didn't add anything to the story and just seemed pointless. Hell not even rewriting the script you could have cut at least 20 or 30 minutes from it and ended up with a better movie.

How much of that went to the cast, I wonder. It's one of the most star studded films out there.

Maybe that's it, they were banking on people seeing it just for the stars. Forgetting that films don't make millions cause of the stars....anymore.

Salaries certainly played a role in the budget becoming bloated.
