How did Caine know his poker hand?

I was actually semi-okay with Caine's high level combat skills, despite his blindness. Sure, it was over-the-top, but at least had some basis in real science. Structural and functional adaptations to the brain to compensate for lack of eyesight are well documented. So, the heightening of Caine's other senses--while greatly exaggerated--was not really an issue for me.

What I did find to be completely nonsensical, however, was Caine's ability to know his poker hand during the scene with Scott Adkins. Earlier in the film, Caine is even given a message from The Table, and a point is made of showing Caine requiring braille to decipher it. So unless I missed something, there's no way he could have known the exact cards he was holding at the poker table.

Silly complaint perhaps, but also a silly goof.

I thought the same. Felt I missed something.

Glad I wasn’t the only one!

I just figured he was supposed to be what they call legally blind, as opposed to completely blind. I presume he can see if whatever the item is is right up in front of his eyes like he did with the cards.

Hm, that’s not the impression I got. Apart from the poker scene, Caine seemed to be portrayed as legitimately blind. As I mentioned, there’s even a scene earlier in the movie where he’s given a card to read, and it’s made clear he requires braille to read it.
