So what happened to **Akim**?..... For a few moments, I thought he was killed and taken care of, to not let anything against Bill come up, even later... but given that there was no indication to it, was Akim let out by the French lady?.... did he escape? (Bill looked a little surprised that Akim was not there in the basement)....
shareThat's a sort of a plot hole. The only people who knew he was there was Bill and the lady's daughter. The detective asking the french woman if she had the key to the basement raised her suspicions to check out what was there I'm sure. You could deduce that Bill's girlfriend released him. It was apparent the defense attorney didn't need him since they already had Akim's DNA provided by Bill thereby securing his daughter's release. Akim's whereabouts were inconsequential at that point. This movie kind of meanders along and could have been streamlined much better.
shareIt was implied that Bills girlfriend let him go, which lead to her asking him to leave.
shareIt’s fairly clear that Virginie let Akim out…remember the scene when a key fell out and she saw it. The camera had a closeup of it.
Then the one dude confronted her in the courtyard about the basement.
Later Akim is gone when the police show up.
It’s obvious.
