Drew Seely's actual age vs. MOVIE Age.

I finally watched this movie last night after seeing bits and pieces of it for 2 years...I've seen WOWP and like Selena Gomez and I enjoy a good musical movie so I thought I'd watch it. Then I checked the boards and thought it was pretty funny how everyone seems to think that Drew Seeley's character Joey Parker was 26.

If you listen to the beginning of the movie when they're first interviewing JP he says he's coming home for his senior year in high school and getting in touch with his roots. So at best he's playing a 18 or 19 year old. I get that it's a little odd that Disney cast someone 10 years older then Selena, but wouldn't you rather them cast someone who can play the part well and looks the age rather then someone who is the age and can't act? I thought Seeley looked 18 or so. I'm 26 and I wouldn't have thought he was older then me.

Age acting happens all the time in movies and tv. I mean, the guy who's played Jackson on Hannah Montana is in his 30's but he LOOKS in his teens so that's how he'll be cast, and he played the part well. I have friends who are actors and they'll tell you every time, it's about how well you can look the part. One of them regularly portrays guys in the their late teens/early 20's because that's how he looks and he's 28.

Overall, I thought it wasn't a bad movie, predictable, but I thought the casting was well done and come on, Drew Seeley isn't bad to look at through the whole thing either. :)

disagree. i thought drew looked his age. thats why i dont think he was for this role, even though i loved him

i mean, in usa they always use older people to play teenagers, but selena is actually a teenager (and looks like one). she and drew looked just awkward together. no offense.

First glance, he looks early 20's, but he plays a 18-19 year old well.

My gosh, how many movies have 25-35 year olds playing teenagers?

Top of my head...

Michael J Fox plays a 17 year old in BTTF1-3...he was 24-29
Jennifer Grey plays a 18-19 year old in Dirty Dancing...she was 27
Matthew Broderick plays an 18 year old in Ferris Bueller...he was 24...his best friend was 30!
Stockard Channing plays an 18 year old in Grease...she was 34! hello, everyone in grease was old..lol

Let it go

Exactly!

The step sisters are played by 27 and 31 year-old actresses when this movie was being made. I realised this because they
play teenage sisters as well in Ginger Snaps, a movie that came out almost a decade before this movie.

I never would have known they were that old had I not seen Ginger Snaps.

I agree with basically everything you said! Haha, it was well said but the movie wasn't that predictable to me, I guess that's just what I think.

They say not to judge a book by it's cover, but what part of a book do you see first?

This is an example of Dawson Casting. It is extremely common in Hollywood. I think the worst example of this is my favorite movie, The Graduate, in which Dustin Hoffman plays a 22 year old, when he is 30. And the worst part is that Anne Bancroft, who played Mrs. Robinson, was only 7 years older than him.

Now if you take me for example, at age 13 I looked 22. I am now 20 and I look about 26. In high school someone actually thought I was a teacher because I looked so much older than the rest of the people my age. My best friend on the other hand is 21 and looks 13.

So it is not unlikely that a high school aged guy would look older. I think the casting was fine because Drew Seeley is a good actor, can dance, and can sing. I do think Selena looked a little young by comparison.

But look at the rest of the actors in the movie. The "step sisters" were both older than Drew Seeley. Had I not known that he was 26 when this movie was made I probably wouldn't have thought about it at all.
