hmmm...
I'll keep watching, because I'm curious. But I'm not enthralled, and if it doesn't improve soon, I'll hope for a cancellation (I'd rather that than just stop watching, which I know is always an option, because I'm a bit of a completionist that way).
And I've read and loved all three books, so yeah, I'm making comparisons. If that bugs you, or you don't want potential spoilers (not doing a deep dive into the future though), or if you want to commiserate, whatever.
Amy's back story is sooo rushed. That's always so irritating on TV. I understand things get cut with adaptations. But the argument is often made that television is a better medium than film for character development, for the obvious of more time. So it stings a bit more when things get cut on TV. It's been a while since I've read the books, so I can't recall exact details, but there was a lot more to it. Amy's mom was convinced in some manner to abandon Amy at an orphanage run by nuns. We got a bit more of Amy growing up, and I think there was some weird incident at the zoo, Omen-style. She's taken from the orphanage by the agents when she's 6. They aged her up for the show. Probably broadens the pool of child actors to choose from, and makes it slightly more palatable for the audience. There was one nun, Lacey, who really loved Amy and came after her and plays a larger part in the story, but looks like she's been written out.
Can't recall if Wolgast had a kid in the books.
The opening scene in Bolivia is much more drawn out in the book, and has the whole team lost in the jungle and being attacked by bats, was really creepy.
Not to mention that the primary timeline from the book is nowhere to be seen, which is a colony 93 years later, after humanity is gone. Maybe that's how they'll end Season 1, then go there if they get a Season 2. Though the problem is I don't feel like they'll want to mess with having to find an almost entirely new cast.
I don't get The Walking Dead comparisons, this feels much more like The Strain.
