Too stupid to recognise that it's a film that people of all nationalities would enjoy – it is great and makes a fantastic change from all the 'exciting' CGI explosions, guns and murders ad nauseum in other films.

Because like most films "based on a true story," people expect quite rightly there's fabrications designed to illicit specific responses out of its audience. While Michael Edwards has said he endorses the film, he's also said it's "about 5% accurate."

In reality he was considered a national embarassment. People want to watch movies about WINNERS, he's a loser and it was embarassing for British people watching him making an arse of himself at the Olympics in their name. Sprinkles are for winners... Movies about losers, are going to be box-office losers... Give us a movie about Duncan Goodhew, a true British Olympian...

For everyone who watch the movie Eddie is a hero.

There's no debate he was a loser in real life, but the movie makes a lot of valid points why he can be seen as a positive role model:
- Eddie was enthusiastic. He didn't go to the olympics simply because he saw none else does, neither just because he could, like Eric the Eel.
- he starts as a Forest Gump figure in the movie with physical drawback above his lack of skill, support and training but reach his dream. As qualifying to the olympics is an almost impossible achievement to the everyday people, even though he sucked he was better than 90% of everyone else.
- he might have been not-as-good, but that made the olympics re-evaluate its outdated qualification-system. How many sportsman (or sportswoman) can say the same?
- Eddie actually re-opened a neglected sport for Brittain.
- Eddie achieved new records for Brittain. Ye, in comparsion to other nations those sucked big time, but they were still national records, so f* yeah!

Within the movie Eddie also inspires other jumpers, and none else but the "Flying Finn". That's cool.

Not to mention the movie also has an equal protagonist in the face of the coach. I bet a lot of heart will go to the people who made such an underdog be able to get to the olympics.
