WB the studio that loves to lose money

What a year of complete box office failures, WW84, TSS and now Matrix , why on earth do they insist on streaming and release it in the cinema? Crazy business model , go bust soon at this rate.

reply

reply

35 ww so far , i was right after all seems like you have no idea what you are talking about

reply

Did you add up the streaming numbers on HBO max? Or are you just a one dimensional sad loser troll?

Looking at your posting history you add nothing to these boards just negativity

So yeah you have no idea what you are talking about but talking to you is an embarrassment

Now fuck off loser

reply

What are the streaming numbers? And how much did it make from streaming?

reply

It's the last movie to go to HBO MAX. They're going back to theatrical exclusive next year.

Keep in mind they only did that deal to boost HBO MAX subscriptions. It wasn't because of COVID or anything.

reply

In the grand scheme of things, they really don't care, the 'agenda' is more important, and there's plenty of 'dark money' for them from their masters for pushing it... see the bigger picture at play!

God Bless x

This is true.

For anyone who doesn't understand what LighttheWorld812 is talking about, look up ESG, Environmental Social Governance.

It's basically shadow corps funding businesses that forego their audiences in order to push a woke business model.

Diversity hires? Free money for you.

Woke messaging? Free money for you.

Equity promotion? Free money for you.

These businesses are tanking on the consumer front-end with operating profits while benefiting on the back-end with shadow investments. You'll continue to see this run roughshod over every major influential business that has any sort of impact at all on social impressions/perspectives.

I think WB knew most of these movies were turkeys that wern't gonna blow up the box office even if there wasn't a pandemic. Pushing their streaming service is the only smart decision they made.

reply

Definitely, and even then Godzilla vs Kong, Dune and The Conjuring still did decent box office for them.

The Matrix: Resurrections does seem like it’ll be the biggest loss for the studio this year though. I’d be very surprised if this film had a budget of less than $150 million (even if the fight scenes were lazy and rubbish) and poor word of mouth will just stop it dead after this first weekend.

reply

I literally went to see Spider-Man again to wash the taste of this movie, which I didn't watch in theaters, out of my mouth, it annoyed me so much it made me hate movies. I'm not kidding.

reply

It is genuinely one of the worst fourth films in a franchise I’ve ever seen. For me it’s as bad as fourth films like Batman & Robin, Transformers: Age of Extinction and Jaws: The Revenge.

Did nobody at Warner Bros. read the dire excuse of a script before putting this movie into production?!

reply

Some of the action scenes in Die Hard 4 are okay. Oh fucking kay.

reply

even if the fight scenes were lazy and rubbish

This. Regardless of what anyone thinks of the screenplays or acting, the one thing the previous Matrix movies could be relied upon was the spectacular fight and action scenes. You could always skip to Neo vs Smith in the train station, or Neo vs 100 Smiths in that playground, or Neo vs Smith at the end of Revolutions and be pumped. Other than the opening scene with that new Trinity woman, which in itself was a rehash, none of the action scenes in Resurrections are worthy of being part of the Matrix legacy. This movie indeed is a turkey of the worst kind. Ugh.

I legit thought the same thing then I saw a post on my Facebook news feed that claimed that the Harry Potter franchise (everything from the movies to plays to merchandise) was worth $180 billion. Ridiculous figure. A little Googling reveals that Harry Potter is worth around $25 billion. I reckon that plus the fact that WB owns rights to the two most recognizable superheroes in the world (ie Superman and Batman; Spider-Man is apparently the third most famous) means WB has a vast revenue stream from lunchboxes and swimming towels and whatnot. But you're right, WB literally pisses money away. But it seems like they can afford it.

reply

How can Harry Potter be worth 25b? Marvel is only worth about 10 billion.

reply

I know, right? They must be including everything in that figure: books, movies, video games, theater plays, amusement park rides, sound track albums, fan clubs, toys, costumes, duvet covers, lunchboxes, basically anything you can stamp "Harry Potter" on to. It's still mind boggling that it's worth $25 billion, especially when, as you say, Marvel has been so lucrative in recent years.

reply

I don't think books make that much money. And I think more Marvel toys sell than Harry potter toys.

reply

Turns out you're right. Marvel is actually worth $53 billion. Disney must be laughing all the way to the bank, considering that they bought Marvel for $4 billion back in 2009. Such a worthwhile investment; Marvel has a library of over 5,000 superheroes; so many stories to tell. As long as the public doesn't get tired of the superhero genre, Marvel and Disney will continue pocketing crazy money. I mean if obscure superheroes like Iron Man, Black Panther and Guardians of the Galaxy can rake in so much money imagine what will happen when Marvel finally make movies about established superheroes like The X-Men and The Fantastic Four? Just keep Kevin Feige in creative control, that guy knows how to captain a ship, and Marvel could be worth $100 billion in a couple of years.

reply

Wow, an increase of more than 1000% in a decade. Although even Starwars is probably worth more than the 4 billion Disney paid for it now.

reply

It's a pity that Disney f**ked up with the Star Wars movies. I personally loved The Force Awakens, but that's because I wasn't a Star Wars fan and everything in that movie was new to me. (For example, when Kylo Ren used the Force to stop a laser in mid-air near the beginning I actually yelled out "Whaaaaat? That's frikken amazing!" in the theater and the audience cheered. After that Disney really messed up with The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.

Fortunately other stuff like Rogue One and The Mandalorian proved that Star War is a legit franchise capable of engrossing stories. They can still be successful with Star Wars. Though I highly doubt it will ever reach the heights of Marvel Studios.

reply

I wonder how Disney got Starwars so cheap though. If anything, they have damaged the brand, but it is surely worth more than 4 billion today.

reply

OMG these figures keep getting more and more crazy. Apparently Star Wars is worth $70 billion today. Whaaaaaat????? That's insane!!!!

That is the total revenue, not the value of the company.

I didn't realize that. But according the Forbes link in my comment above Marvel is indeed worth $53 billion, or 16% of Disney's worth.

reply

Even the box art is cheap and stupid looking..
