Why'd they have to make Peter the bad guy?

He's apparently seeing someone else so that frees up Lou to do the same. Just seems like lazy writing. Don't get my wrong; I still love the show and am so glad it's back on Up, but Peter was always the kind, sensible guy to Lou's hysterical, controlling, overbearing dictator. Why did they have to go and make Peter the bad guy/

Peter loved his job more than his family so it's not Lou's fault how things turned out. If only he accepted the job he was given in Alberta, Peter wouldn't have destroyed his relationship with Lou and distancing himself from the kids.

None of this isn't to say that Peter's a bad guy, he isn't, he just made bad decisions with his family.

Yeah, I think it is Lou's fault. She's a bit of a harpy.

It's been a while since I've seen where he was offered a job in Alberta, but wasn't the guy that Peter would've been working for a jerk. I wouldn't want to work for someone such as that either.

And I wouldn't say that Peter chose work over family, he was just providing for his family. I realize in the terms of the show they couldn't have Peter and Lou and the family move because they need them to be there on the farm for plots. But in real life, people move for jobs all the time. Yet, on the show Lou treated Peter like he was out of his mind for wanting to move the family.

I really wish it had been the other way around; Peter had stayed and Lou left. Peter was such a good, loving dad and a good guy. I can do without Lou. She's always creating some unnecessary drama.

Lou can be a bit of a harpy but Peter did always put his job first. I don't blame the failure of their relationship on one or the other. They both contributed. I always thought they were set up to fail but it lasted longer then I thought so I had my doubts. ;)

Lou and Peter never listened to each other and always tried to solve problems without the others help or input. They definitely didn't know how to communicate with each other.

Well, realistically Lou would have to sacrifice her B&B as well as her café for Peter's job and moving to a flat than a house. Peter was selfish and decided to prioritise his job over his family.

There are times when one or the other parent works literally in a different country or many miles away that the two only see each other weekly, every 6 months or such. People try to immigrate to a new country in order to improve their finances and have a good life with a job, that and pay any debts they may have.

Btw, can't wait for Season 10 to air. I really miss Heartland!
