Heartland Christmas stunk !

I was really disappointed in the Heartland Christmas show. I felt it was very dreadful and depressing and had nothing to do with Christmas. I realize this show is not "The Waltons", but I was hoping it would have a real Christmas story- something like Grandpa Jack would tell. There was so much they could have done and implemented- maybe Christmas past at Heartland or something. But, no. And what was worse- the acting was awful. Did they have a different director or something? I have never seen bad acting like this in what is normally a solid cast. I don't see why they even bothered with it.

But it could have been so much better. The acting was really bad in this one. I just felt they could have done a much better story. It was very dull and poorly acted.

But you see the back story could have been done better. Like more Christian. Lou and Mallory couldn't agree on decorations and then some angry old guy with abandon horses or something. Just didn't feel very Christmas spirited to me.

This is how "religious" the Bartlett clan is:

Long ago, the snowstorm of the century prevented them from getting out to church for the christening of their newborn, so they held their own "baby-naming" ceremony in front of the fireplace.

Which is how the tradition of each new family member getting a stone in the hearth was born.

The last time these folks were seen to be in a church together as a family was for the wedding of Peter and Samantha Louise.

True, but you can't assume from this that they don't attend church. You also don't see the characters go to the restroom or sleep or eat each meal, but you can pretty safely assume that they do.

True.

But I submit to you that showing them going to the bathroom doesn't make for good TV, so it's a reasonable assumption they do go, considering Jack built outhouses to combat the one-bathroom issue in the house.

Going to church regularly (even a "we just got back from church" utterance), saying grace, asking for divine intervention, praying for others' well-being... We have never seen this on Heartland. This is because the show is not a religious or faith-based program. It never was. Anyone who tries to pretend it is, or is disappointed there aren't more overt mentions of anything of a religious nature has missed the fact it is a secular show.

I was really surprised at how bad the acting was, and religious or not, I just didn't get a 'Christmas" feel from this movie. It was just a regular episode of heartland to me. It could have been so much better. Have you seen the Waltons "Homecoming"? Now, that's Christmas!

Many families who aren't church goers still have family traditions at Christmas time- gathering, feasting, baking, singing around the fire, sleigh rides, etc. There was just no real "family" feel to this one. This is a family that I would think would have lots of traditions for every holiday of the year.
