It is possible to like Gemma AND Tara

I love both characters, and understood them both. I've noticed there's a division among "Sons" fans concerning these characters, and some bickering. It's obvious I'm a big Gemma fan; while I know she did some not-so-good things, especially in the last three seasons, I always understood her. And I understood why Tara became so fierce in season 4, and was willing to ruin the club in season 6. I think they were both strong, interesting, and wonderful characters. It would have been nice if they stayed close friends a little longer, though. They were so great together. I understood, though, why Sutter made the decisions he did for those characters, though. There, I gave my two cents. Now I must just wait to be burned at the stake.... just like Gemma and Tara have been. :)

They were great together in S2-3, especially when they shot up Ima's car.
But i'm not sure what to make of Tara. She started as nice, then tried to become Gemma Jr., but didn't have that sort of class.

I loved Tara's transformation! She ended up being almost the badass that Gemma was. Almost, of course. ha ha I think onr of the main things about Gemma and Tara is that life got ahold of them so much. It did all of them, but the women - like always - get the most criticism. The women - including Stahl - are the ones who made the show for me. I found Gemma and Tara easy to relate to, as outrageous as that sounds, and the most interesting.

I quite liked Wendy. From a junkie she transformed into a very strong woman. She loved Jax but she had no illusions. She only put up with crap for Abel's sake.

reply

I didn't like Wendy, and not for the reason most people do. She abandoned her son for 5 years and never really tried to be his mother just his babysitter, who has a laundry basket in almost every scene she's has in season seven. I loved her when she was strong and tried to stand up to Jax and Gemma not sure which season it was when she told Gemma something like you thought I was crazy on drugs wait until you see me sober or something like that when she wanted to be a part of Abel's life. Gemma tells her to go away...and she does. Wendy even tells Tara in season 6 how she NEEDS to get those boys out of charming, if Tara doesn't she will and then in season seven she pined for Jax and wanted him and the life, not long after she tells Tara that.

Although I am glad that she was still around for the boys in the end, I just didn't like her throughout the series.

When she tried to fight for Abel, we saw what Jax did to her. She was smart enough to realise that she had to 'play by the rules' because no way she could win against a hardcore criminal and his psychopath mother.

reply

What Jax did to her was awful and one of the reasons I disliked Wendy the most in season seven. After Jax not only slammed her against the wall, he compromised her sobriety, she just forgives him weeks later and all we hear is how much she loves him and gets off on the chaos both Jax and Gemma bring to the table. I don't think she would have "played by the rules" forever either. After some time had passed and Wendy saw how much danger her child was actually in she would want to get those kids away from Charming as well. She wasn't around when the real danger was happening to the club. Jax was a completely different person when they were married, and the club was in a different place.

I like Wendy, too. She also went through a major transformation. I felt so bad for her in the series finale.

I'd forgotten that scene...cool.

I began thinking of Gemma and Tara as the Lucy and Ethel of "Sons." Ha! Gemma and Tara, and Lucy and Ethel - four of my favorite TV characters. The situations they'd get into, like those in season 3 and shooting Ima's car, were so funny. Gemma, you got some 'splaining to do!

reply

Why wouldnt it be possible? Just because the characters dont like each other doesnt mean that you have to pick a side.

Do you like both Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker?

reply

At the beginning of the series? Yeah. But not anymore especially since Gemma turned out to be a sick twisted bitch.

I would have liked to have seen their relationship a little more before they decided to tear these two to shreds and if you think about it their grudge was also a huge downfall of Jax and in turn the club. If you can understand Gemma though? That's some higher form of issues right there.

Burned at the stake? Nah. You like what you like and that's respectable enough. :)

Are both well said and I couldn't put it any better myself.

Didn't I admit that she did some very naughty things? Yes, I did. You can understand someone, even if you know not all of their actions are okay. Her murdering Tara, for example, is something that was certainly horrible! However, not only do I get that she killed her out of an act of passion rather than a flat-out "screw her" kinda thing, I can understand the rage she must have felt at the time. I mean, believing your son is going to be betrayed like she was led to believe would have infuriated me BIG time. And I most definitely can't say she did nothing wrong in season 7. Her character as a whole, though, I got. She, like almost everyone else in the series, was troubled to begin with and just snapped under the pressure of all the chaos going on. Oh, and about me having issues.... meh, I won't argue that I'm f&cking bonkers.
