The Mayans Get FX Pilot Order

FX's Sons of Anarchy spinoff is one step closer to becoming a reality.

FX has officially ordered a pilot for the project, titled Mayans MC, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Sons of Anarchy co-creators Kurt Sutter and Elgin James co-wrote the pilot script. Sutter will exec produce and James will co-exec produce the drama from Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions. Sutter is also set to direct the pilot, which begins production in March.

Mayans MC is set in a post Jax Teller world, where EZ Reyes, a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the Cali-Mexi border, struggles with his desire for vengeance against the cartel and his need for respect from the women he loves.

I would have preferred a First Nine spin-off or maybe nothing at all. Spin-offs and revivals have done no favor for the shows that I've dedicated myself to so I doubt this one is going to be any better. Luckily they can't screw up most of the best characters from Sons of Anarchy.

amazing...it might be ok, being on the border and everything...might be SOA meets 'the Bridge"..

Yeah, I will check it out for sure. With the same talent writing and producing it they might come up with a good show.

I don't have much hope for a successful spinoff, but I will give it a shot.

This doesnt sound half bad. If they start a new story with new characters and occasionally reference SOA, that might work out. The spinoff wont work if it relies 90% on riding the nostalgia of the original show and characters.
