Is this worth watching if I haven't seen the first 8?

I see District 9 available to watch on a few streaming platforms, but I don't ever see any of the first eight. Is this worth watching even if I haven't seen the first 8?

It's certainly not an original joke. My first time hearing it was with Malcolm X. Do I need to see the first nine?
