Why did Villeneuve omit the love between Leto and Jessica?

IIRC, the previous version (Lynch 1984) showed them in bed when she conceived Alia just before they were manipulated into relocating to Arrakis. What do we see now? The only contact they have (despite Rebecca Ferguson's adept use of sexuality in many previous films, for good or ill) is when she rubs his head when he feels tired!

Her empathy with family is so strong that she feels Paul's pain when the Reverend Mother tests him, but they fail to portray her pain when Leto dies -- only her grief at the city's destruction.

Further, the Reverend Mother in the current reboot accuses her of selfishness in disobeying their command to conceive only daughters. There is no mention that she conceived Paul because Leto wanted a son and she loved her husband so much that she disobeyed. IIRC, this motivation is clear in the novel as well as the earlier movie.
