I love to see the differences betwen faiths...

It's always interesting to me to watch films and even documentaries that deal with ridding a body of possession or demonic influence.
I am not Catholic, but I am of another large Christian faith, and it's so interesting to see how different the approach is when dealing with the adversary. And at the same time, there are some strong similarities. The use of scriptural verses, and doing the work in the name of Christ, seems to always be the foundation of the work. While we do not use Holy Water or crosses, we do have a very hands-on approach if the particular instance calls for it.
One thing that I got hung up on here, a little bit, was that they wanted to know the name of the particular demon they were dealing with. I have had many personal dealings with evil spirits, entities, and unwanted visitors, and I have always been able to command in Christ's name their removal. I haven't ever had to find out who I was up against at the time. Although there have been times where I was able to find out who it was, it wasn't necessary knowledge to rid the person or place of the evil.
Having said that though, I still give the highest praise to those of the Catholic Faith for doing Christ's work here, and knowing so unfailingly to call on Him, to chase the devil from our lives.

Signed, Me.

By obtaining a name, you have some power over the demon, and it's supposed to be easier to exorcise it as its true nature will be revealed. Well, so I've heard. From the cinematic standpoint, not my religion. The filmmakers have to get their info somewhere!

Check out the priest's q&a about exorcism and this film, why the name was important, similar to the importance of one's name during baptism.
