Wallander could not possibly be more boring
I read the first book in the series and couldn't stand Wallander. He is so devoid of personality and life. It's as if Mankell is smugly looking down on American police dramas with their obsession with aggressive cops whose zeal for justice makes them break all the rules of law enforcement by making Wallander an impotent civil servant who walks and talks like he needs testosterone supplements. I have to say, the British TV adaptation was very loyal to the books in that way. I feel the need to slap Branagh in the face to wake him up. I wish they would make a show based on Jo Nesbo's novels. They are 1000 times better than anything else coming out of Scandinavia in that genre.
