Love it but why did BBC pick this story

There's a Swedish writer he writes some good stories, someone's making a movie or a series sooner or later, obviously a Swedish TV: Swedish (and nearby) locations, Swedish characters and names etc. Very usual. How come this also became a BBC programme?

As I stated I absolutely love it so basically I understand anyone's involvement but I think whatever great it is still just one of the cool detective series.

I'm looking for the extra factor which made it worth for BBC to produce it abroad with foreign companies instead of choosing a story that is taking place in the UK.

- is the story so terrific that there's no British equivalent?
- the main character absolutely matches the producer's ideas regarding Branagh?
- BBC simply thought British audience would love to see something different, Nordic crime stories are popular, they love this atmosphere anyway?
