Last episode of Wallander (Series 4, Episode 3)

It was nice to see Kurt find a measure of peace in this episode. He's certainly had enough trouble for a lifetime (and seen enough teenage girls set themselves on fire, as he points out in this episode). Still, the ending of Wallander strikes me as a bit odd. After all of the family problems that he's had over the years, largely due to his job, he's able to set everything right by protecting Linda and Klara with his decision to destroy the submarine-related materials? The symbolism of the ending is lovely, but it all felt a bit too neatly wrapped up considering the complexity of Wallander's relationship with his family members (Linda and wives) over the years.

And while I can appreciate Kurt's forced retirement and the show's important depiction of people with Alzheimer's, in a lot of ways, it would have been more interesting if retirement hadn't been forced on him, or if Kurt finally aged into mandatory retirement, how he would deal with his life and how he would develop his relationship with Linda (and maybe Biba? Or another woman?) after his personal life wouldn't be interrupted by his cases and his phone all of the time.

It was really depressing for me.

The poor man spent a lot of years dealing with all types of s#it, being a really good cop and a great father, and (even if we don't see this) he probably died alone and confused after four or five terrible years.

The ending was perfectly fitted with the whole dynamic of the show, anyway... But it was so sad.
