PBS airings are much shorter

I've never watched the show on PBS before, I always watched on BBC, or got the BBC Blu-Rays. However I watched "The White Lioness" when it aired last week, and it felt incredibly rushed and confusing. Then I read in the New York Times that PBS cuts the episodes down a lot to fit in their slots. I checked, and the actual PBS episode (minus the hosted introduction) ruins 80 mins, while the BBC airing set for next week is 89 mins. That's 10% of the episode gutted from it. Appalling. I'll wait for the BBC Blu-Rays again. I can't believe PBS does this.

PBS does that for most of their shows. They trimmed parts of DOWNTON ABBEY.

Thanks for the info Luckard. I knew they edited Lewis, but I've never seen Wallander on anything but PBS. I see that BBC 1 is going to start airing the last series on May 22, so I plan to re-watch it then. That's a shame that they do this.

I've noticed that British films are sometimes edited like this when they are released in the US. A prime example of this is Pirate Radio. It was called "The Boat That Rocked" when it was released in the UK and is 2hr 15min. By the time it opened in the US it was called Pirate Radio and is 1hr 35min ... nearly cut in half. The original editing was so much better.

How on earth can you cut content like this and not lose continuity?
