I love this guy and he was awesome here. Could watch anything with him in it.

Indeed. "Matinee" (1993) was also so awesome because of John Goodman.

I wouldn't say overated, Like Bryan Cranston, I think he has a special status as "one of the greats long overlooked and never got the roles or recognition" he should have in hindsight

I agree, he was amazing in this, definitely one of his most impressive performances.
