Does soaking a wound with alcohol and lighting it on fire somehow help cure the wound?

reply

I think he was supposed to be cauterizing the wound, sort of new take on the often done gunpowder on a wound deal. Unfortunately doing it with alcohol wouldn't be a very good way to do it. The majority of the bleeding that was an issue wasn't on the top of the wound and when alcohol burns the majority of the heat is above the surface. If he let it burn long enough to actually do anything where the bleeding was happening it would have required him to get severe burns on a much larger area of his stomach. Frankly it was a stupid thing to have him do. He would have been better off just squirting some superglue in the hole instead of trying to burn it with alcohol. Not to mention alcohol would have burned with a much more blue flame and only traces of yellow.

Well it cauterizes it, good temporary fix to stop the bleeding at least. Will still likely need to be looked at afterwards.

I doubt it ... compound a gunshot with a 3rd degree burn?
