Just an observation

Am I wrong in my observation that a lot of people trashing this movie are indian and a lot of people who love this movie are not indian?

is there something, innate to the way things are spoken (non-indians don't understand it in general)? or the connotations of the words spoken?

I'm not indian and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this movie...i sat through the whole three hours at least 3 times. My friends love it too.

Most of them are typical jealous SRK fans. I am an Indian and most people I have met have loved this film. The trending of the movie in India when it released was outstanding, probably the best in the last decade and it is the highest box office grosser in India ever, by a long shot. So majority of Indians actually liked the film. The movie isn't perfect, but definitely not as trashy as some of these people here suggest. It has some flaws but those can definitely be ignored when you consider the larger picture, Personally I liked the film.

I'm not very fond of Bollywood film, I don't like the style tbh. But I came upon this accidentally & was surprised by how much I liked & enjoyed it! I was surprised coming into this board finding so many dissenters, it's a fun & light-hearted film, why so much hate? I thought this was a good film, I gave it an 8/10. I even enjoyed & liked the musical parts! I'm not Indian btw.

I'm not Indian, I'm Australian, but my girlfriend lives in India at the moment and suggested I watch this.

First of all, I don't mind the movie. Some very nice twists, and it moves pretty well for it's running time.

Here is my main list of gripes...

1) Rancho is just too 'Ferris Bueller' for me to like. A self-obsessed kid who only wants people to live life how he thinks it should be lived (making him a hypocrite) while not thinking at all about possible consequences.

2) *spoiler* Rancho falling into a relationship with the daughter of the evil teacher is the kind of massive coincidence I hate in movies. They *just happen* to show up at a party that *just happens* to be for the teacher's daughter? It's an example of a movie treating an audience like idiots.

3) The style of the movie just doesn't work. Gallows humour, then a suicide, then a musical number, then some surreal cutaways, followed by more bawdy humour and more serious drama makes for a very uneven tone. The film doesn't know what it wants to be, so it tries to chuck in a bit of everything. Truly a movie that's been designed carefully to be liked by as many people as possible.
