I think the ending is the reason the women came back to play the witches

What a sweet ending for the villainous Sanderson sisters. Winnifred giving up her powers for Sarah and Mary.

So they brought them back just to establish how much they love eachother.

It’s like bringing back Walter White just so he can look at his Tag Heuer Monaco watch.

It’s like bringing back Luke Skywalker just so that he can hug Leia one last time.

I actually didn't like them humanizing them. Their evil ways shrouded in mystery made them more enticing in the first one.

Can't have truly villainous women these days, they must all be "redeemed" or "misunderstood" in some way.

reply

Same; yea they were goofy but they were threatening as well. Watching at the time was ok/fun but when you start processing it all; it really felt like a waste to bring them back.

That was the part I didn't quite get. In the first movie, Winifred was quite willing to sacrifice her sisters to save herself. She even berated Max for doing it. Now she gives up everything for them.

I especially didn't like how 'out of nowhere' it came. Yea, they were trying to set the stage for it, I guess, but it just didn't hit for me and felt like they just decided to go this route in the last 10 minutes of the movie. All the motivations for this movie were really weird and not thought all the way through

Agree. The story was all over the place.

Considering the time that passed between films, they had enough time to come up with a story to do the cult film justice.

Given my username, you’ll not be surprised to know I have friends in the Wiccan community. When the first Hocus Pocus was filmed, the head witch of Salem put a curse on it, to make it fail at the box office. It didn’t really fail, but it underperformed, even with Bette Midler singing “I Put a Spell On You,” which she was born to perform. I’ll not see the sequel, but from what I read here, the curse is still working. By the way, the true Salem MA is today called Danvers MA. The tourist trap today called Salem is not where the witch hunts too place.

Being pressed to death by having boulders piled on you: did the Nazis ever concoct a more diabolical torture? Or “the water test”: “She sank and drowned, she wasn’t a witch.” Yeah, The Lord is REALLY gonna welcome YOU through the Pearly Gates.”

Strntz, my friend, I am glad there are people like you who make the world seem less hopeless. I honestly believe that Woman is the very best idea that The Lord has ever had, at least to me.

“She sank and drowned, she wasn’t a witch.”

I don't know if you're a fan of The Simpsons, but they nailed the illogic of the accusations and methods.

Nope. I've been following the making of of this movie for like 10 years now (thanks to "liking" a bunch of Halloween appreciation pages on Facebook that would post rumors and stuff about Hocus Pocus 2). Bette, Kathy, and Sarah have/had been on standby to return for the last 10 years or so (since about the late 2000's or early 2010's, but around 2015-2017 things REALLY picked up). Hocus Pocus 2's script was pretty much written a couple months or so before the movie was filmed. So they had agreed to come back WAY, WAY before the ending of Hocus Pocus 2 was written (along with Hocus Pocus 2 altogether) and before they were given the scripts. They signed on/agreed before they saw anything. So theory debunked.
