Can someone please explain the last scene?

On the road to Los Angeles? Was he just going for a joyride or what?

I think he was going to UCLA to reconcile with his son and deliver his graduation present - the car.

Yes, he was definitely going to UCLA where his son was enrolled -to reconcile with him, and perhaps give him the car as a graduation present. The ending was perfect. I didn't need to see any more. We know it was going to turn out good.

I thought it was pretty self explanatory (driving towards Los Angeles with the sign off to the side of the road) but maybe that's just me.
