Jamie Foxx now playing Spawn

Damn, good start for the cast...

reply

Weird... I thought they were going to switch the main character's race. It's a kind of current trend. I wonder why they haven't... mmm.....

reply

Bland comment, 100% I expected some butthurt race-baiting snowflake to say it, not surprised it's you.

reply

I see. But still, insults aside, do you have some clue about why they haven't changed his race in this case? Any idea?

reply

I see. More insults.

Quite interesting how SJWs always respond to a calm debate with insults and personal attacks.

reply

And more insults and personal attacks. But someway... you rationalize that the other is an asshole.

As I said, interesting.

youre a fucking worthless cunt troll with a life so devoid of anything of worth while that you get your jollies race baiting on a movie forum

You, on the contrary, you are quite a typical SJW, behaving like any other standard SJW.

If you consider snowflake an insult, then you really are a snowflake, snowflake!

Anyway, MAIN characters don't usually get changed much at all... The new Ghost In The Shell is one example where a Japanese character did get changed to Scarlett Johansson, although that body IS technically a robot, so it's fairly irrelevant (now was the original person also Scarlett Johansson, that's the question).

The other answer is that the long history of whitewashing and white domination of media historically demonstrated a lack of diversity, and thus, changing other races to white is completely counter to the cultural forces of diversity.

But you already knew that, because even though you pretend to be, you're NOT dumb (see, that's a compliment!).

reply

How many black characters have you seen "whitewashed" last years?

I thought they were going to switch the main character's race. It's a kind of current trend.

1. Why did you think that?
2. What kind of current trend are you talking about?
3. Are you trolling?

Hate to side with Frog who I often vehemently disagree with on Di$ney Star Wars boards to the point where I think she's soft shoe trolling at times but this is definitely a trash post.

Well, at least you're honest about your own posts. I have to give you that ^^

reply

Dude. Come on. Your trolling is way too simple & predictable.

reply

As you wish. Whatever, something interesting to add to the debate beyond name-calling?

reply

I would have preferred Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejofor, or Djimon Hounsou. Not a big fan of Foxx, but oh well, excited this is getting rebooted!

reply

I think the Foxx casting was the last nail in the coffin for my excitement for the project. I am not thrilled with the concept they are working on, given the character that budget is a massive concern too.

reply

I'm not familiar with the direction or concept that they using behind this, but I can't imagine this ends up being worse than the last film.

reply

[deleted]

Oh boy...maybe it will be worse lol

reply

He's the exact same age as Michael Jai White. Shoulda just kept the original guy.

reply

I agree, White wasn't the problem with the first film. Though if they were going to recast why not go younger, other than being a recognized name Foxx brings very little to the part.

reply

Agreed - Foxx is okay, but he's no Michael Jai White. Otherwise, younger makes more sense and there are so many up and comers waiting to, I don't know, up and come?

reply

Isn't Spawn supposed to be a big guy. Jamie Foxx is a small frame individual who is only about 5'-9". I just don't see this working.

reply

I can't take Jamie Foxx seriously in any Superhero/Supervillian role. I see him and i'm just like "Oh look it's Bunz"

reply

He’s been impressive in some stuff obviously, but he wouldn’t have been my first - or even 10th - choice for the role. Can’t call myself a Foxx fan in general, but I’m having trouble picturing him in this particular role.

That being said, he could be great. Although he seems to be far from the perfect casting choice for this, I’m not necessarily against his casting. He may be the wrong built and everything (lol at him being only 5’6) but I suppose he has the acting chops to sell it. And I love that Renner is a part of this.

reply

I think I just figured it out.

Foxx is very concerned, because comic book movies have made a huge impact, and his part of that will be remembered as a crappy villain in a crappy Spider-Man movie.

He wants to salvage his legacy for this element of history. I have a feeling he's going to give Spawn everything he's got. Let's see him do Al Simmons so well he wins another Oscar for it.

The material and is there in the story. Todd McFarlane packed Spawn with enough emotional fodder to make it both serious (or pretentious, some may say) and appealing to emo-goth types who also love the demon/satan/suffering angle.

After that, it's all in the presentation.

One thing, though: Spawn should not be made as an action movie. I think Todd is involved this time, perhaps even directing? I also recall he wanted to do it more as a horror movie instead, or something like that. Perfect.

reply

I think you hit the nail on the head. I really hope it turns out great.

reply

Films are best when filmmakers make movies they want to see. That's Cameron's credo, and many others. I saw Alita tonight and I see why Jim has wanted to make that for so long. I'm glad he picked Rodriguez to shoot it, who shares that credo.

So if anyone wants to see a Spawn movie the most, it would certainly be Todd. He'll make the Spawn movie he wants to see.

reply

Apparently Spawn will be full CGI... so why not Keith David. To me, he is SPAWN.

reply

Eh they should have kept mjw. Foxx is the same age. MJW is still in good shape. Renner is miscast too Twitch should be more nerdy looking
