Everyone knows this will be terrible

Todd McFarlane writing and directing from his own comic book.

Seriously.

I mean, did Frank Miller's movie adaptation of Will Eisner's 'The Spirit' happen so long ago that people with money forget what an utter stinker it was?

reply

No it might be good.

reply

Has been in development hell for so long.

reply

Whereas Frank Miller’s adaptation and direction of his own Sin City ROCKED. We have a 50/50 chance here.

For the record, The Spirit, for all of its terrible script, yet another Sam Jackson toilet-flushable performance and dense dialogue is something that I enjoy because of the metiere and the incendiary hotness of the women, including Stana Katic.

reply

He co-directed Sin City with RObert Rodriguez that's why they were so good. I think this will be a complete mess. But I'l watch it

reply

Yeah "co-directed". I'm guessing Rodriguez did most of the heavy lifting.

The comic was born from the great artist rebellion of the time. Artists were bringing in the fans and not getting the money (nor ownership) due to them for the effort. So all the big name artists left to create Image Comics. Great idea since it let the creators own their shit. However, they were feeling their Cheerios and were writing for their own pencils. They were far better artists than writers. The Spawn comic looked great but was long and boring.

Spawn is not a good property to expand. It is a one note story that has been explored far far better by the Hellboy series.

Could turn out to be the next Dredd.
