Bittersweet

I like it. It’s a simple tale about the relationship between a young academic and a taiyaki chef that he has fallen for. She has an accident and develops short term memory loss.

Hollywood would make this into a “high-concept” Memento/Groundhog hybrid, but here, it is a slow, melancholy almost bittersweet love story. Nothing fancy, no surprise twist, just a splice-of-life story.

The director also did Mio on the Shore and Summer Blooms, but I think I like this one is best of the 3 films of his that I’ve seen.
