I'm sorry, this movie is fantastic...

Watching this new Ghost In The Shell, as its own movie, it plays great as sci-fi, action, adventure, drama.

(disclaimer: I watched the original anime, it's just ok to me, I bought it on disc, its a fine placeholder, I'm not a fan of anime really, I don't care one way or the other about it)

Re-watching the old version, it's kinda lame now and too into the "art" than the story. IE lots of stagnant scenes of the city taking 10 miunutes doing nothing plot wise, just trying to look ARTy I guess.

Where as the new one - I felt - did an amazing job of including SO MANY original elements... I recognized so much of the old one in the new. They had to move things around a bit, USUALLY giving the old parts made new MORE meaning and relevance inside the whole story. The original had some random side things that happen that we don't care about minutes later, the new one took those and fit them into the puzzle so it worked better and told a better story.

Adding parts to the story about her past, and the evil bad guy only made THIS FILM that much better than the original. I really felt for her plight and what they had done to these people. The original, so far, I feel nothing for any of them, other than, "eh... cool cartoon"

Like I said, I am not a big fan of the original, but it did cool things at that time, and I get that and respect that it was first and all that. But this new one really did great story wise.

Even the effects, actions, and acting was all working too.

Well done, Rupert Sanders, well done, and thank you for a fine, stand alone sci-fi film!

I'm sure there are people out there who saw the first one, it changed thier lives and there is nothing better, I get that, and I respect that totally. But, this current film, ON IT'S OWN, is beautifully done and deserving more praise and respect. (I don't work for any related production companies, I'm just a guy)
