Villain's gang were the difference between original and remake

In Verhoeven's film, you felt like you knew and hated every one of Boddiker's gang by the time they got their comeuppance in the chemical plant.

In the remake, you don't really get to know any of the non-corporate villains and the film is poorer because of this.

'Villains' were coming from everywhere in this one. The Gang, the Prceinct and the Corporation. And none really stood out.

Emil, Boddicker and Jones are all timeless characters. Morton, although not really a villain, was great as well

It had no serious villain, you need a good villain for a good movie, look at Mad Max Immortan Joe, everything is written on the dude mask without saying much.

Totally agree, the villains didn't create any emotion to the viewer. to me it never felt that M.Keaton character is "very bad aka main bad guy".Villains weren't "bad enough" in this flick.

In the original you could feel how sadistic, brutal Boddiker gang was.

Yeah, I think that might actually be the biggest thing holding this movie back. The crime gang or whatever they were came out of a action factory, and the same thing for the bad cops at his precint. They were super generic and uninteresting. Which is a shame, they really should have come up with something more original. I've seen a lot of movies a lot worse than this one, this just falls into the "mediocre" territory.

This was definitely the weakest point of the remake, for me... The original did a great job of balancing criminals against corporate nastiness. Murphy's demise was so impersonal here (probably due to a softer rating) that the killers may as well not have been included at all, and they could have just focused even further on the officials who diluted his humanity.

I agree, i mean clarence boddicker was someone you grow to hate then this Antoine Vallon who was hardly in the remake movie itself.
