I don't think we have another thousand years. Religious fundamentalists are pushing back scientific advancement. Stupid people are outbreeding the smart 10-1. The US is imposing sanctions on Russia, who has already threatened thermonuclear retaliation. . . and judging by natural history, Earth is long overdue for a substantial asteroid bombardment. We're screwed any way you slice it.

Someday there will be no humans . . . it could take longer than a thousand years, but it's inevitable nonetheless.

Truth be told, one of the possible apocalyptic scenarios comes not from natural disasters, but from human misuse of science.
For every cybernetic leg, which would help a person who lost a real one, there is a new weapon created, each more deadly than the last one.
And if not weapons, I think Stephen Hawking himself said that he is cautiously terrified of a (quite probable) scenario that artificial intelligence could one day turn against its creator - Man.

I love science - I'm using it now, by typing on this keyboard-thingy.
Still, the fact remains that humans do (and will) use the marvels of technology to destroy, not only to help and create.

Stupid people are outbreeding the smart 10-1.

That's really hard to define - who is stupid, and who is smart?
For example, I am quite well-read about a huge amount of stuff, and yet, I can't fix a tiniest plumbing problem in my house.
