Did Oshii Mamoru approve of this version of Ghost in the Shell?

I am trying to find out if this "upgraded" version was the will of Oshii or the producers.
And if it was the latter, did Oshii approve it?

Can't find any info online.

Not only did he approve of it, he was behind the whole thing. Oshii may be a genius but he's obsessed with new technologies so he wanted to "update" his masterpiece with the new effects available in 2008. And he wasn't the only one to come back, most voice dialogues and sound effects, as well as Kenji Kawai's score were re-recorded in 6.1, with some changes, as well as new CG effects of course.

Did you like it? Because I sure as Hell did not. And what's ironic is that I think this version will age badly (just like Innocence did, despite being a great film). The 1995 version was mostly celluloid animation with some CG enhancements, and it worked wonders. The 2.0 version traded the original's unique flavor for a video game orange and teal look with way too much contrast. As a result, I thin it looks way too clean. There's an immortal vibe to traditional animation that modern CG animation will never have.

I still cannot believe this nonsense was Oshii's idea. The original incredible atmosphere is mercilessly killed in this horrible thing. Oshii truly is a Japanese George Lucas.
