I'll give you the only and one reason: 1981 Evil Dead masterpiece turned into 2013 Evil Crap.

Not my case. Just watched the movie -for my first and of course my last time- and while watching I was desperately waiting the end to enter IMDB and write my previous post.

reply

You spent time during the movie just waiting until you could say it was crap? Doesn't sound like you gave it much of a chance. Tsk Tsk.

I think he/she gaved too much change to it. Didn't want to judge it before saw it end. Still, it doesn't make this movie any better. Maybe slightly better than some horror remakes in 2000 and but still quite poor.

reply

Its a few people with a 100 or so user names trying to lower the score

Well they are doing a rather pathetic job considering it's at 6.5 as of today, at least 3.5 points higher than where it should be.

I went into this movie to hate it. And of course that's a very very VERY childish stupid ignorant mindset to have. Turns out it was a very good remake.

I wonder how many times people dislike something just because it's a remake...probably about 99% of the time. If this was the original it would probably be a cult classic masterpiece and if the 1981 version was the remake, people would be bashing on it for illogical reasons just because their fanboyism got butt hurt over silly reasons.

Time to grow up (like I did) and start being reasonable instead of sounding like an irrational fanboy.

reply

Same here. I absolutely love the original, so I didn't go see this in the theater because I didn't want to be disappointed again. I caught it on cable about ten minutes in, and I groaned at the premise (intervention). Still, there was nothing else on, so I went with it. By the time it ended, I was thoroughly impressed. It was a well done reimagining with perfectly executed homages to the original. I think it's a perfect example of how to reimagine a classic while maintaining its spirit.

The Raining Blood was a nice touch/ addition.

Every single one does this mistake.
First it's not remake. Ash and Mia coexist and are going to be together in the seventh Evil Dead movie so this is also a sequel. Next Fede does Evil Dead 2 and Raimi's does Army of Darkness 2 with Campbell. After that it's emerging time according to Cambell.

Secondly compare it to ANY horror film from 2000 and after and atleast i can easily say it's shining gem middle all this CG crap people call horror nowadays.
Fede is what horror needed. If this film was named anything else than Evil Dead every Evil Dead fan would have loved it. There is clear reason why Raimi gave permit's to do Evil Dead again after declining offers for so long. And that reason is Fede Alvarez...

reply

Well put ! Bssically they couldn't seem to decide whether to remake it or re-write it. As a consequence, the parts they remade just didn't stand up to the original - just shows doesn't matter how much money you throw at something if your directing skills just aren't up to it !!!

Why don't the fanboys of the original just NOT see the remake? The remake does not take away nor hurt the original. It's still intact. It didn't die.

So since you liked the original film, automatically this one is crap? Sounds like you're just another biased fanboy. This movie, when compared with others in the horror genre, is one of the better horror movies of the 2000's. You give no reason why it's not good, other than its not the exact same movie as Raimi's 1981 film(?) is that the problem? Should they have taken all the same people and script and done a shot-for-shot replica of the original? Would that have made you happy? Probably not. I'm sure you'd still find some pathetic reason (like the one you gave for this film) to bash it. This was a straight up horror movie, with tons of blood and gore, decent/good acting, and good effects.

Why do you think everyone hated the movie? The successful box office tells a different story. Like any movie, some liked it, some didn't....

"Don't conform, be like us...."

reply

Actually, it was VERY much liked in general by the public/critics/fans. Things change once you get to troll town though(IMDB).

reply

Please don't listen to thesse trolls, they only hate this movie because it was a success, Watch the first Evil Dead, and honestly give your opinion about it without anybodies influence. This re-imagining is way better than the original. If they didn't like this movie, they didn't like Cabin in the Woods, and if you didn't like Cabin in the woods, then your a *beep* human who's opinion doesn't matter and deserves to drop dead and die

reply

[deleted]

Veggie, from your history, your opinion does not matter, you gave Debs and a 10? And Evil Dead a 1, your a bias lil troll

reply

*biased, ffs.

In 30 years people won't even know this remake existed. The original however, will be in it's 23,456th printing. I saw the original before it's cult status arrived and it scared the hell out of me. I saw all the remake had to offer in the first 5 minutes and it didn't. By the way the re-imagining is only a rehash of other movies, not including it's namesake.

Agreed! I couldn't get myself to watch this movie until now because I love the original(s) so much. As far as a remake or "reimagining" goes, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
I liked that there were minimal amounts of CGI, and gallons of blood. But actor and story wise it was a little weak. They should have f.. up the camera angles more, and made the story..I don`t know. A little more twisted perhaps. I grew up with the series though. Evil dead came out the year I was born. And Army of darkness is still one of my all time favorite movies.
It`s gonna take a little more imagining than this to impress me...

reply

it's not so bad. it's a decent remake as remakes go. It's not True Grit remake good, but it's better than Total Recall Remake.

Why go get some guy to be the new Ash when Mia is already tailored to be the remake franchise's Ash equivalent?

Ok Jane Levy did make an off-hand comment about not wanting to do another horror film but as they all say, money talks.

I loved it. Haters hate just to hate. They are pathetic fools who live in their mom's basement.

reply

The film is so good, that it has it's own haters. Like, this movie is seriously good. Too good!

Also, because it's a remake I think.

reply

The reason that I hate this movie is: To many female demons crawling around in a grudgish way, lack of scares, the exorcistic language of the lindablarish female demons, the on male demon who walks around like a zombie, lack of scares, omenish music near the end, lack of scares and last but not least, the fact that Sam and Bruce put there names on this filth that is not even a half baked tribute to the original two films.

Not worth the less than two dollars I spent at the rental kiosk.

Chances are, that's your review going by the general rule of thumb in the Evil Dead 2013 IMDB board.

Quite kind of you though to call it a "review". To me, that post looked like a loose sphincter not being able to help himself when inadvertently dropping a steaming wet load.
