One of the most badass horror films of all time.

- Extremely gory.
- Great jumpscares.
- Vulgar dialogue.
- Loud sound editing.
- Sharp video editing.
- Lush, saturated visual aesthetic.
- Nice short runtime with brilliant pacing.

Extremely entertaining film!!

What's it lacking? Nudity I guess and some more humor? (Though the latter could damage the tense atmosphere so it's probably for the best it didn't go too silly.)

I'm surprised you liked this film a lot considering the mixed reception it received back in 2013. I came across this film on demand and I thought it was pretty good and that was before I started to watch the other Evil Dead movies (although I have yet to see Evil Dead Rise).

reply

The mixed reception is largely due to the absence of two of the franchises mainstays. Slapstick comedy and Bruce Campbell as Ash. Taking those two away was a sin for some diehard Evil Dead fans. Also general anti-remake/reboot backlash.

That's the only 'issue' and reason for the mixed reception. Almost everyone who was willing to do without the slapstick and Ash had a really great time with this.

ASH DOES APPEAR...THEY ORIGINALLY WERE GONNA HAVE HIM DRIVING A TRUCK AND PICKING MIA UP AT THE END BUT PLANS CHANGED AND INSTEAD HE APPEARS POST CREDITS AND SAYS GROOVY.

For once I agree. Kind of like how I feel about The Karate Kid 2010 remake. Yes that movie felt more like a Kung Fu movie just with an american protagonist, but at least it pay homage to certain elements from the original in a unique manner. Plus the Evil Dead remake here has a WAY better written female protagonist than ****ing Ray from those terrible Star Wars sequels who was nothing more than a Mary Sue.

reply

Agreed, it is really good and honestly my favorite of the Evil Dead movies.

reply

Definitely my favourite ED film so far. Looking forward to seeing how the new one compares (cannot believe that a decade has passed since the last).

reply

I love it. It's intense, gory and just really entertaining. It's my favourite ED movie, but I haven't seen Rise yet.

ARMY OF DARKNESS NERD HERE...THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY IS AMAZING AND AOD IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE...I ENJOY THE HUMOR/HORROR MIX...THAT SAID...EVIL DEAD 2013 IS EXCELLENT...ALMOST IT'S OWN THING.

reply

It's also a gender flipped movie done right.

reply

I used to postpone watching the original Evil Dead because I deemed it too scary. I have the same with the new ones!

Lol as I'm usually quite insensitive to horror.

I love the anticipation! But it seems I have to no longer fear disappointment as WD 2013 seems to be pretty groovy.

Will watch!

It’s pretty bad ass! Above RISE in rawness. Also a bigger budget. Great film. Also it’s holding up
