Why did he fall on his feet?

Wouldn't common sense tell you to drop huddled into a ball position so your head and feet are protected? Or even jump after rocking yourself? Athletes jump from long heights and land on their boards all the time. There were so many better options than falling straight down and landing on your feet

reply

He wasn't thinking logically haha I would try land on my side!

reply

If he landed on his side he would've broken some of his ribs and most likely punctured an important vital organ.

I bet you're wondering what a place like this is doing in a girl like me-The Mummy

reply

He wasn't an athlete and even they don't jump from a chairlift onto a snow during the freezing weather.

He'd just break something else.

reply

I'd rather break my arm than my legs!! Now he can't move at all!

reply

I would have strapped onto my board and fallen straight. Being on a hill, physics would dictate that the angle of the hill would decrease some of the impact no?

reply

It's also odd because when you get really cold, you sort of freeze into the position you are in, so I think he would have been more likely to fall in the sitting position he had been in, in the ski lift. My reference is growing up in Minnesota! Brrr!!! Like your legs would need to warm up again to stretch out like that, but alas, it's a movie and there were be less drama if he made a nice landing and went for help.

reply

Not to mention, he would have went in to shock, passed out, and bled to death before the ( blatantly trained pet wolves) attacked him!

reply

I was wondering why he didn't turn about in the chair, then climb down to hang by his arms under the chair. That would take almost 8 feet off the fall, not to mention he'd be in a better position to roll into the fall or, if wearing his skiing equipment, slide into it as though he'd just done a jump of some sort. The extreme result of his falling, followed by him not rolling onto his front to drag himself around just annoyed me. He made no attempt to move except in the wrong direction to his broken legs.

reply

Wow your a tough guy aren't you? It was a 50 ft drop. 8 feet less wouldn't have made much of a difference especially if he still tried landing on his feet.
And him not rolling onto his front to drag himself around annoyed you? Can you imagine how much pain he was in? Two broken legs with the bones popping out. Most people would've blacked out after either seeing the bones pop out or the amount of pain.

reply

The way they showed that scene- with his feet going straight towards the ground LOL. You knew something horrible was about to happen

reply

If he kept his snowboard on his feet, and he hit the ground with his feet first the snowboard would have slid forward and broke his fall.

reply

Not sure how high up they were, but I wonder if one of them took off their jackets and tried to lower him down, if that would have worked??

If I ever go skiing I'm bringing a rope lol

reply

I thought of that too, just being that little bit nearer the ground could have made all the difference

reply

I didn't understand why he kept his boots and bindings on to jump. Just tripping over in those things breaks people's ankle, so what did he think was going to happen?

If they'd tied their clothes together like a rope it would have made a huge difference, too. Between them they could have got him lower by several body-lengths, and then the ones in the chair pull the clothes back up, untie them, drop his down to him and put their own back on.

But it's the downside of films like this that if the people in it are too clever, you don't have a story.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.
