Seems like the IDEA that moments of history intersecting with a character's life in the movie, were lifted from Forrest Gump. Nothing wrong about that though as both were fiction.

The period in which both films took place was very similar, as well as how both main characters interacted with a lot of the same presidents.

I thought the exact same thing after watching this movie. I enjoyed it, but Forrest Gump came to mind.

The only difference I saw was that Cecil was much more aware of the historical events taking place around him.
