This movie made no sense whatsoever

Probably the worst movie I have ever seen. It was so irritating and cringe worthy. The build up was basically the typical fear mongering overpopulation, global warming, terrorism, CO2 levels and oil *beep* Through the entire thing I was trying to figure out what his true motive was, but it just seemed like he was killing completely randomly.

I mean lets break it down:

Terrorism - complete joke. I guess they were referring to war. Well actually we live in the most peaceful time ever. It almost looks like war is "going out of fashion".

Oil and resources - what a bunch of nonsense. We are slowly but surely going over to renewable energy. We will not need oil in the future.

Plasma TV's and face lifts - so what? People can do whatever they like. Fancy cars and plasma TV's increase the happiness of people and hence increase productivity and decrease suicide rates. What is the problem here? Perhaps he is just jealous of people who have it better? Pitiful.

Now to the last part. At the end of the movie he seems to point out that his true motive was overpopulation. Now this is the most irritating myth I have heard. No, we do not have any overpopulation problem. That is ridiculous. We have PLENTY of room. Heck even if we manage to somehow overpopulate the entire planet technology in the future will probably allow us to start building cities on water, in the skies and on other planets. No problem. The only related issue here is uneven resource division among the world and and inefficiency of current technology. That's all it is, not "overpopulation".

This would all be resolved with replacing oil with renewable energy and fusion power (once we figure that out of course). Replace those primitive cars we have with electric cars once we figure out graphene batteries. We will be able to accommodate everyone once 3D printing advances enough to make mass production stupid easy and cheap.

IMHO the future is very bright for us and this movie is completely out of touch with reality. There was no enjoyment in the kills, because the were demeaning. It also made no sense that he wasn't taken down by a swat team and somehow got away after all that.

1/10, because of the ridiculous score IMDB has for it now.

I liked the movie a lot but also enjoyed reading you're post you bring up good points. yes a lot of it seemed like mindless random killings with that said it is an action movie. unlike a lot of the pg 13 films today I applaud Rampage for looking like an action movie should

Rob Zombie is one of the greatest directors today

It was randomly (with a couple exceptions) he was setting up his friend who had made that big rant about over-population...

I'm not 100% sure if he actually believed in all of that himself or if it was all about the money (which he got plenty ful), I do believe he got some enjoyment out of killing all those people though...

Also, most of the dialogue was improvised and with that in mind it's pretty impressive what they pulled off, I didn't know that until know tbh until I read it on the trivia page here and it surprised me as I've seen it twice and thought it was stellar both times.

I'm gonna refuse you an offer you can't make

OP, you're forgetting that you're trying to reason with a psychopath. Almost every mass murderer in history had some BS motive that made no sense to anyone else. Just the way they think.
